Thinning Hair
Some statistics show that more than half of men over the age of fifty are afflicted with thinning hair. That may seem like strong language but if you've ever sincerely spoken to a young man or middle aged man about his thinning hair you'd probably notice the slow crumbling of his demeanor and the slight whimper in his voice. Women also suffer from thinning hair and it could even have a more powerful impact on them.
Watching your hair clog the shower drain or coming out in clumps on a brush is no fun. People will try most anything to prevent their hair from thinning.
Causes of thinning hair
There are many causes of thinning hair – genetics, side effects of medications, malnutrition and even smoking cigarettes. If you are genetically predisposed to hair loss then you could have a tough battle growing your hair back.
Thinning hair occurs when testosterone in your body is converted into DHT. DHT is a powerful androgen and it clings to the receptors on your hair follicles, which then become weak. In this weakened state the hair follicles cannot produce enough hair to compensate for all of the hair you are losing on a daily basis.
Thinning hair treatment
Thinning hair treatment includes prescribed medications, over the counter herbal remedies serums and solutions that inhibit the production of DHT. You have probably heard of minoxidil, one of two FDA approved treatments for thinning hair. Minoxidil is the active ingredients in products like Rogaine and Provillus. The other approved treatment is Propecia (Finasteride). While Propecia can provide thinning hair treatment, it often has unwanted sexual side effects such as impotence.
Vitamins for thinning hair
Provillus is a two step process for thinning hair treatment. Provillus's topical product contains prescription strength quantities of the DHT blocker Minoxidil. Step two is Provillus's dietary supplement specifically formulated with saw palmetto to block production of DHT, as well as other herbs and Vitamin B6 to promote normal hair growth.
